# Review Screening Question Answers

See at a glance who has answered your screening questions, and read every answer in one place.

### Overview

Candidates can answer a job's screening questions in several places: when they apply through a job board, in the Application Form, or on the **Application Questions** page sent by the **Send screening questions** automation. Wherever the answers come from, Discovered shows them the same way.

A colored screening icon tells you each candidate's status at a glance:

- **Orange:** the candidate was asked and hasn't answered yet
- **Green:** the candidate has answered
- **Red:** the candidate picked a dealbreaker response

Click the icon to read the answers, including when they were requested and when and where the candidate answered.

## Before You Start

- The job needs screening questions. See [**Set Screening Questions**](https://knowledge-base.discovered.ai/en/article/screening-questions).
- To ask candidates already in your pipeline, add the **Send screening questions** automation to a status. See [**Send Screening Questions to Candidates**](https://knowledge-base.discovered.ai/en/article/send-screening-questions-to-candidates).
- **Admin**, **Editor** and **Viewer** users can all see the icon and read the answers.

## How to Review Screening Answers:

**1\. Check the Screening Icon in the Candidate List**

- Open your job posting and view its candidates.
- Look for the document icon in the candidate's row. Hover over it to see what the color means:
- - *Screening questions outstanding* (orange)
    - *Screening questions complete* (green)
    - *Screening questions: dealbreaker response* (red)
- No icon means the candidate hasn't been asked and hasn't answered any screening questions.

The same icon appears in the candidate profile header and in the profile preview. It updates after you move a candidate to another status.

**2\. Open the Answers**

- Click the icon. The **Screening questions** window shows each question and the candidate's answer.
- While the candidate hasn't answered yet, it shows *No answers submitted.*
- Click **Finish** to close it.

**3\. Read the Answers in the Candidate Profile**

- Open the candidate's profile and go to the **Application** tab.
- The screening section starts with a line that tells you where things stand:
- - **Requested** and the date, with *No answers submitted.*, while the candidate hasn't answered yet
    - **Answered**, the date, and where the answers came from, such as **Indeed application**, **ZipRecruiter application**, **Application Form** or **Screening questions request**
    - **Not requested** when the candidate was never asked
- If the candidate hasn't filled in the Application Form, the screening answers still appear under their own **Screening Questions** section.

**4\. Follow Along in the Communication Tab**

- When a candidate submits their answers, the **Communication** tab shows a *Screening questions completed* activity with the answers.

## Shared Candidate Lists

People you share a candidate list with see the same colored icon next to each candidate. They can't open the answers.

## Why This Matters

- Spot candidates who still owe answers, so you can follow up.
- Find dealbreaker responses quickly, before you spend time on an interview.
- See every answer in one place, whichever route the candidate used.

## Use Cases

- **Recruiters:** Scan the candidate list for orange icons and send a reminder.
- **Hiring managers:** Open a candidate's answers before an interview to prepare questions.
- **High-volume teams:** Use red icons to quickly review candidates who picked a dealbreaker.

## Best Practices

- Check the screening icon before you schedule an interview.
- Turn on **Automatically Move Dealbreakers to Rejected** only if your team is comfortable with automatic rejections. See [**Assessment Configuration**](https://knowledge-base.discovered.ai/en/article/assessment-settings).
- Pair the automation with a conditional move, so candidates who answer move forward on their own. See [**Conditional Candidate Status Rules**](https://knowledge-base.discovered.ai/en/article/conditional-candidate-status-rules).

## What Happens Next

- As candidates answer, their icon turns from orange to green, or red for a dealbreaker.
- Answers stay on the candidate's profile for your whole team to review.
- For more about the profile, see [**Candidate Profile Overview**](https://knowledge-base.discovered.ai/en/article/candidate-profile-overview).

With screening answers in one place, you can see who's ready to move forward without opening every profile.
