Autocalls Setup and Management

Automate candidate phone outreach with AI-powered calls and intelligent follow-up workflows.

Overview

AI Autocalls allow recruiting teams to automatically contact candidates by phone using an AI voice agent. Instead of relying solely on email and SMS reminders, recruiters can enroll candidates in automated calling campaigns that encourage them to complete important hiring tasks such as assessments, interview scheduling, or application follow-ups.

The AI agent can make multiple call attempts, follow custom instructions, and stop outreach automatically when a candidate completes the desired action. All call activity is tracked within Discovered, giving recruiters complete visibility into candidate engagement.

This feature is ideal for high-volume recruiting teams that want to increase candidate response rates while reducing manual outreach efforts.

Note: AI Autocalls must be enabled by a Discovered administrator before this feature becomes available.

Step-by-step setup

1. Create and Connect Your Autocalls Account

Navigate to Settings → AI Agent for Contacting.

If this is your first time using Autocalls:

  • Create an Autocalls account using your email address and password.
  • Your account will automatically be linked to Discovered.
  • Complete any required account verification steps.

Once connected, you'll be redirected to the Autocalls setup screen.

2. Purchase a Phone Number and Calling Minutes

Before creating an AI agent, you must:

  • Purchase a phone number for the AI agent to use when calling candidates.
  • Add a payment method through the Autocalls billing portal.
  • Subscribe to a calling plan that includes available calling minutes.

You can manage billing and usage directly through:

autocalls.discovered.ai

Once a phone number and calling minutes are available, you can create your first AI agent.

3. Create an AI Agent

Click Create Agent and configure the following settings:

  • Agent name
  • Voice selection
  • Assigned phone number
  • Retry schedule
  • Calling window and time zone
  • Maximum call attempts
  • Days of the week the agent can place calls

Each AI agent comes preconfigured with conversational guidelines and recruiting best practices.

The agent also uses a dynamic context token that allows Discovered to provide job-specific instructions during each call.

4. Add the AI Outreach Automation

Open the job posting where you want to use Autocalls.

Navigate to the desired workflow status and add the AI Outreach Call automation.

Select:

  • The AI agent to use
  • The automation task to monitor

Examples include:

  • Complete an assessment
  • Schedule an interview
  • Complete onboarding steps

Only automations already assigned to the status can be monitored.

5. Configure the Call Objective

After selecting the monitored automation, provide instructions that explain:

  • What the candidate should do
  • Why the task is important
  • Any relevant job-specific details

Example:

"Remind the candidate to complete the pre-employment assessment. Explain that completing the assessment is required before moving forward in the hiring process."

These instructions become the conversation context used by the AI during outreach calls.

6. Enroll Candidates Automatically

When candidates enter the status containing the AI Outreach automation:

  • They are automatically enrolled in the calling campaign.
  • The AI agent begins processing the outreach request.
  • Calls are typically initiated within several minutes.

No manual dialing is required.

Monitoring Active Campaigns

Recruiters can monitor active outreach campaigns through the Autocalls portal.

Campaign details include:

  • Candidates currently enrolled
  • Campaign status
  • Call history
  • Call attempts
  • Outreach context
  • Agent activity

This allows recruiters to track outreach performance and candidate engagement in real time.

Automatic Campaign Management

AI Autocalls intelligently stop outreach when a candidate completes the requested action.

For example:

  • If the campaign is asking candidates to complete an assessment, outreach stops once the assessment is completed.
  • If the campaign is asking candidates to schedule an interview, outreach stops once the interview is scheduled.
  • If the candidate is moved to a different workflow status where the AI Outreach automation no longer exists, the campaign is automatically canceled.

This prevents unnecessary follow-up calls and ensures candidates only receive relevant outreach.

Why This Matters

Fast follow-up is one of the biggest factors in candidate engagement. AI Autocalls help recruiters connect with candidates quickly while eliminating repetitive manual phone outreach.

This ensures:

  • Faster candidate engagement
  • Improved assessment completion rates
  • Increased interview scheduling rates
  • Reduced recruiter workload
  • Consistent follow-up across all candidates
  • Automated outreach at scale

By combining AI-powered calls with workflow automations, hiring teams can keep candidates moving through the hiring process without requiring constant manual intervention.

Use Cases

  • Assessment Completion: Automatically remind candidates to complete required assessments.
  • Interview Scheduling: Encourage candidates to book interviews after applying.
  • High-Volume Recruiting: Manage outreach across hundreds of candidates without manual calling.
  • Candidate Re-engagement: Follow up with candidates who have stopped responding to emails or text messages.
  • Automated Hiring Pipelines: Combine Autocalls with workflow automations, sequences, and assessments for a fully automated recruiting process.

Best Practices

  • Create separate AI agents for different recruiting use cases if needed.
  • Use clear and concise call instructions when configuring outreach context.
  • Monitor campaign performance regularly through the Autocalls dashboard.
  • Combine Autocalls with email and SMS sequences for multi-channel engagement.
  • Ensure candidates have valid phone numbers in their profiles before enrolling them in campaigns.
  • Test new call workflows with a small candidate group before rolling them out broadly.

What Happens Next

Once AI Autocalls are configured:

  • Candidates are automatically enrolled when they enter the designated workflow status.
  • The AI agent contacts candidates according to the configured schedule.
  • Campaigns stop automatically when the candidate completes the targeted action.
  • Recruiters can monitor activity through the Autocalls portal.
  • Call records, outcomes, and campaign activity remain available for review.

With AI Autocalls, recruiting teams can automate candidate outreach, improve engagement rates, and keep hiring pipelines moving forward with minimal manual effort.
